Jaguar XK in surreal set
Full CGI automotive visual. Created in 3ds Max, rendered using Redshift, composed in Photoshop. To kick off this project I spent a good day to sketch out some ideas. The sketches lead me to the following concept: yellow car in colorful and saturated surreal environment.
I jumped in 3D and started to fire out quick 3D drafts - simple basic scenes. If 3D sketch was promising, I painted over it in Photoshop. Below are two sketches I was choosing from.
PS: I used Porsche 3d model because it was very lightweight and fast to work with.
Then I started to detail the scene and work on the overall concept. We have a ladder on a wall. I decided to add metaphor "Ladder in sky/heaven", so later we'll have cartoon cloud there. The shadow of the ladder is diagonal, so I tried to support diagonal motive later on all elements of the environment.
The small bushes have red flowers, which can be perceived as eyes of cartoon monsters :-) In the left low corner of the composition, you can see all lines are blocked by a diagonal wood plane that leans against the wall. The design of window was based on the idea of some kind of "modern district of Tatooine".
