BŁOTO
Błoto (originally Mudbound) is the debut novel by American author Hillary Jordan.

The main concept was to show a cover book with an American background, a cover which action is happening in the past. Colors are warm what identifies the American South. Laura McAllen as one of the main characters is represnted on the cover. The goal was to show the smoke that comes from the house and fills head of the main character what means that Laura's hopes in the success of her husband's plans showed the opposite and turned out to be a nightmare.

Plot summary:
Henry McAllen moves his city-bred wife, Laura, from their comfortable home in Memphis, Tennessee to a remote cotton farm in the Mississippi Delta — a place she finds both foreign and frightening. While Henry works the land he loves, Laura struggles to raise their two young daughters in a crude shack with no indoor plumbing or electricity, under the eye of her hateful, racist father-in-law.
A mix-up over a lease sees the family living in a cramped, dilapidated shack, and forming an uneasy relationship with their black tenants, the Jacksons. Hardship, mud and more mud ensue - Laura "dreamed in brown" - until two men are demobbed from military service: Jamie, Henry's charming, feckless brother, and Ronsel, the Jacksons' eldest son. War has affected them drastically. Ronsel cannot accept the Delta's endemic racism and Jamie, nerves shot to pieces, has turned to drink.
