The Collected Tales of Edgar Allan Poe is a series of books with the different stories of the dark story writer and poet. For this project, it was required to redesign the cover of the books and make an outer container to keep the series of books together. The challenge was to make a design that reflects the mind of Poe — his sorrow, his secrets and the darkness that he portrayed in his horror stories and poetry.
Stochastic hand drawn watercolour illustrations were employed to give the design a sense of disaster and chaos. The project is black and white providing dramatic visuals, common with classic horror. The typography is kept simple using classical fonts to keep the visuals in line with the nature of the author.
