Academic project in collaboration with MABE. The goal was to reduce the wasted space caused by the piece located on top of the stove. Initially, it was made to prevent food from staining the wall, working as a shield to keep the kitchen walls clean.
We learned most people took it out when they installed the stove in the kitchen, so our goal was to use this wasted space that would allow users to keep their cooking utensils near without having a mess.
As we did our research, we discovered this space shouldn’t be used. Having anything near to the flame may cause accidents, as well as getting utensils from across the stove would result in burns. Instead, we developed an accessory that would allow users to place it anywhere they saw fit.
