The Tramway is an international art-space which commissions, produces and presents contemporary art projects. The Café Bar is a great meeting place offering a range of quality produce. The Café Bar also offers a selection of fresh home baking making it the perfect pit stop for a coffee and cake, also featuring a fully licensed terrace overlooking the Hidden Gardens.
THE PROBLEM
To spruce up the boring white counter which takes up a lot of space. It doesn't look very nice at all as it keeps getting scuff marks and is dirty looking if not constantly cleaned.
THE SOLUTION
To design and wrap the counter in a durable anti scuff vinyl, which would have the artwork printed on and then be applied in four sections, due to the dimensions of the counter.
The tram: the staff were set on having some kind of picture of a tram. So from the offset, I could see a nice illustration in the making. The tram has the address of the building and the wee nod to Tunnocks that's a popular Glaswegian brand (on the advert) as the café bar is great for a cuppa.

The timeline: I thought it would be nice to encapsulate the history of the building from is origin as a tram-shed, until now as an important part of the arts community. I met with the other businesses within, who all were happy to be included and supplied assets that could be used. It was nice to get a real sense of the community. – This is when I love my job most, connecting with people.

I also went on to do some menu redesigns including the tram illustration. To tidy up the cake counter, I designed non-rip labels, that could be wiped clean too.
Unfortunately, this project was put on hold due to budget cuts by Glasgow City Council, which was heartbreaking! Bright side I enjoyed this project and hope to add finished pictures in future. They now too have a nicer menu and cake labels – these did go to print.
