Oğuz Atay
Illustration series for 'Birikim' magazine's
January-February 2018 'Oğuz Atay' special issue.
Oğuz Atay was a pioneer of the modern Turkish novel. His first novel, 'Tutunamayanlar' (The Disconnected), was published in 1971–72. Never reprinted in his lifetime and controversial among critics, it has become a best-seller since a new edition came out in 1984, and has remained popular to this day.

I was asked to create a series of illustrations to accompany the articles in the Oğuz Atay section of the magazine. Using the author's most well-known photograph, I intended to illustrate the many different perspectives of the artist and his body of work. For Atay, the figurative death of the author also makes the artist live on, through unique perspectives, as many as his readers.
