True to its name, Costa Nova was born from a holiday trip to Costa Nova, Ílhavo, Portugal.
It is a piscatory village, where the cheapest wooden houses, near the river, are fully designed with blue, green, red or yellow stripes.
With the design of these houses, called Palheiros, I began to sketch some ideas that were coming to me. Intuitively I started this project that did not leave me indifferent ....
Inside the main and long external building, in red concrete, the structure that shelters the office, the interior garden, the bedroom and the bathroom will be in white plasterboard, with simple and stylized lines creating an architectonic space inside another, bring up contrast between the two, through the tones, textures, materials and dynamics.
There people are so friendly and helpful!
Something that impressed me a lot were the gates and the doors that were always open. That's where I decided to put a large glass door as if it were always open to everyone for a visit, in good company along with good wine!
This project couldn't just stand in the middle of the sketches on a pile of paperwork...
I made a simple plan of the house in an easy program that I had installed and from there I started a model.
The exterior walls of the house will be in coloured concrete, also in a reddish tone. Over the years, the house will become more and more solid and the colour will change with time and sun exposure - darker when it rains, clearer with sunlight.
In every house it all comes down to the colourful stripes and the windows that open the face of the houses to the magnificent view of the river. Thus, it was essential to choose one of the façades with large windows.
Taking into account the natural light, the amplitude and to reinforce the idea of "open space", the rear façade will be all designed with windows from the top to the foot of the house.
