8.5" x 6". 2016. Full leather French fine binding with laced-in boards. Bound in brown goatskin with back-pared onlays, blind and gold tooling, acrylic paint, and embroidery. This work was accepted into a juried competition put on by the American Academy of Bookbinding, as part of a national touring exhibit. The text is a collection of Alfred Lord Tennyson poetry. I created this work shortly after my father passed away in 2016, and drew particular inspiration from the poem "In Memoriam". In creating a fine binding, I do everything from the "forwarding" -- including sewing the book, rounding the text block, and shaping the boards -- to the "finishing" -- which encompasses the execution of the design I envision.
