"Setso - A story of a Self Portrait.
The word "Setso" is a Sotho word that means Culture/Tradition. Your Upbringing. In my case, My father was a Zulu man and my mother was a Sotho woman. Growing up it was hard claiming myself as a Zulu when I couldn't speak much of it and I didn't possess any qualities of a Zulu man. I wasn't strong and built like them, I wasn't confident and fearless like them. Instead, I was small and meek. And no one would take me seriously. So somewhere in my early 20s, I started to embrace my upbringing. My upbringing as a Sotho man. Setso saka - "My tradition" and started to wear the culture with pride.
So this illustration was created to be a declaration of self.
