“GDNT”

-Do not go gentle into that good night-
Why necessary?
‘GDNT’ is a language inspired by bioluminescence of deep sea creatures. Since a language can not live without its environment, we can see that deep sea creatures share a quite concise and efficient glowing language in such a dark and cold ‘midnight zone’, without any waste of energy. The only aim is to survive and the mere two important issues for them is attraction and prey.
Recently it is reported that human also have potential of bioluminescence which cannot be seen in bright surroundings. Is this alluding our evolutionary direction? Nowadays the living environment for us has changed a lot. With the global environment destruction, people are thinking of expanding our current habitat or exploiting new ones. Where will we move and how can we communicate in a new environment? Is human bioluminescence a probable response?
‘GDNT’ tries to look back at the primitive but wise animal existence, to awaken human’s animal instinct which we pushed away during the advance of technology, and to explore a new communication material based on bioluminescence in response to environmental change.

Who?
For people who wants to evolve biologically. The language you choose to use can actually change the way you live and think. ‘GDNT' advocates an ecologically animalistic life style only with limited necessary ‘words’ about attraction and prey for restarting an initial life in a new environment. For example, there are only 6 modes of light to show your interest towards other person for attraction, eliminating redundant flirting.

How and Where?
It will use light to simulate the bioluminescence of human which might be seen in the future environment we live in, with assumption that we might live in a extreme dark habitat where light is the most efficient way to spread far away with low energy consumption. Because if we speak, the sound consumes easier in most materials and the speed is slower. If we write, we can not see the scripts in the dark. Also it is anti-anthropocentrism. As in future we may share a new habitat with other species, we also need to share the language in the community. Speaking and writing with signifiers can not make sense when we want to communicate across species. ‘GDNT’ simulated light signals extracted from deep-sea features, which could be the material offering connection between human and animals. Human could recollect memories from ancestors all about surviving natural principles through it.

Do not go gentle into that good night

Dylan Thomas
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
