Illustration: A Secret Meeting

When reminiscing old memories, I tend to remember events that move my passions. Traveling is one of my greatest pastimes, and although it is difficult for me to remember every single detail of every trip (because I could never be bothered to keep a journal), certain images remain in my mind for a very long time.

In August 2011, I decided to recall one of my most significant trips of all time; my very first solo trip to Japan and began to depict my memories, little by little, into an A4 size illustration named 'A Secret Meeting'. Every minor detail, such as representations of koi, a vending machine, a spider crab, symbolise the things that have amused me while venturing into a world I barely know of.

The illustration is titled 'A Secret Meeting' because that was what it was. A meeting with a secret someone, a journey I took that none of the people in my family were aware of. It was the very thrill of this adventure that has moved me to make such a piece.
