Shelf Life. A Modular Shelf with Infinite Possibilities

Within this project, I wanted to create a wholistic experience. This was an exploration of type, form, and ultimately, function. Tasked with making an album, and accompanying book of designs, I decided to make a custom shelf to house the books, as well as the album and poster. Focusing on materials that felt organic, like wood and clear acrylic, I tried to stay true to the artists, Typhoon, and their grass roots, indie stomp-rock sound.

Out of this was born: Shelf Life. With back compartments to hold alternate media, as well as vertical book slots along the front, Shelf Life is made for a variety of media. This modular shelf can be stacked, or modified to fit into corners. One of the best features of this shelf is its specific design to accommodate for books with large spines and thin edges. Further iterations of this shelf will be made for elementary schools that need ergonomic shelves to hold students binders, that don't easily stack.
