MIJIA - Watch
I had the chance to design and direct this animation for the launch of the new Xiaomi Mijia watch and it has been a fun adventure since I had complete freedom during the process.
Below the final piece and then a little breakdown of the process.
Making of:
I started thinking about a story that could introduce the main features of the watch (quality of the materials, auto-adapting to timezone and steps counting) and show off the three different models during a one minute piece.
So, everything started, as always, sketching out some ideas.
Then I jumped into 3D to model the watch, start to visualize it into the digital environment and sketch out some of the compositions I had in mind. Some of them remained very similar until the end, some other didn't make it and I discard them.
I also needed to have a rough idea of the render time that I would have to face to be sure to manage my time in order to respect the deadlines.
To render out all the finished shots on my computer would have take around two weeks of time (XD), so for the final renders I relied to an online render-farm service and the workflow C4D + Arnold + Farm worked great.
Here some of the first rough renders:
After further explorations and feedbacks from the client I ended up having the (almost) final design.
Things will still evolve until the last day.
As you may have noticed also my character "Eight" was hired for a small part in the movie...:D
At this point I started the animation process: here one of the animatics, with a reference audio from a Lady Gaga song.
After this I continued working and refining shaders, lights, animations until the final version.
And that's all for this little making of.

Thanks for watching!
