THE SHIRTING PROJECT
We live in a cosmopolitan society, and our language, origin and traditions have made us who we are. Every culture has its own charm, contributing to our individual and collective identities. But, due to globalisation and heavy marketing by large brand, most people (especially the younger crowd) are more attracted to cheaper and trendy clothing and are active consumers of ‘fast fashion’. These trends are not only polluting the environment but with increased demand for the new, clothes are hoarded and discarded recklessly and in greater number.
In order to combat the issue of consumerism, we wanted to weave a story around each garment so as to inculcate the sense of attachment. We decided to make a clothing range comprising of one-of-a-kind collection of garments representative of a region in India. These garments are made with cut pieces of fabric or unwanted pieces of clothing in an attempt to incorporate regional (or native) identities. Each garment is an attempt to cater to people of all sizes.

FINAL COLLECTION
We created two different small collections using the scraps and old clothes which were collected from two cities; Jaipur and Bangalore.

EXHIBITION
Many of the visitors who came for our exhibition tried on the various garments that they fancied.
