The inspiration for this design came about as we were fascinated by the complex inteplay between simple horizontal and vertical elements and how they could come together to create a structure of incredible visual depth.

So, what if we could take them apart? By separating these elements, we could then see how the differences in horizontality, verticality, and opacity involved in the structure still provided an interesting and yet coherent aesthetic effect.
The Interlace challenges the conventions of interior and exterior; it is opaque and transparent depending on how you look at it. It is neither closed off, nor absolutely open. It was these fluid visual tricks that drew us to select it as our final design.

Depending on whether it is open or closed, the structures prove a mesmerising sight sure to draw customers to the store. Even the boxes spaced between also play with opacity, allowing you to see a hint of what lies within.
The parts used in the construction of the Interlace are all highly modular. If any of the L- planks or boxes are damaged,it can simply be removed and replaced with an identical piece. The boxes all use an identical method of attachment.
The boxes are not purely aesthetic. They provide shelving, lighting, security by protecting the goods within, and blend in with the aesthetic of the structure. Structural integrity is improved with the addition of these boxes. 5 functions are fulfilled by these simple boxes, resulting in an economy of means.

When closed, the Interlace can be reduced down to a structure simply occupying 3m² of space! It is incredibly small and compact and makes use of space efficiently. Its size means it can easily be transported anywhere in the world with a smaller carbon footprint.

The pristine white boxes that hold the testers help to give a feeling of preciousness and protection to the delicate goods held within.
The rear section of the Interlace can be slid back to allow for a second entrance. Two units can be placed end to end for an even larger retail space. More units can be brought in depending on the amount of space available.
