Composition and Balance

Composition & Balance

For this project, I had to create 5 asymmetrical and 5 symmetrical images using only 4 shapes: a line, a square, a triangle, and a circle.  It was fascinating to see what you can do with just basic and rudimentary shapes.  Working with balancing the elements and being aware of the spaces and how they interact with one another was a struggle at times, but overall an enjoyable experience.
For the second and fourth images, I took inspiration from a winter landscape and a cityscape.  The rest of the images I tried my best to be completely creative and abstract, solely focusing on the layout of the elements and expression.
I really enjoyed working on the symmetrical set of images, as I found them to be more challenging.  I normally do focus on symmetry when drawing, and although it took me a little while to get going and feeling comfortable, once I really got into it, the time just flew by.  For these, I was inspired by Nordic and Native American Tribal designs.  I wanted to stay away from kaleidoscopic designs as much as possible since they were the first thing that came to mind, and I really wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone.
