For this project where we had to create a symbol from a story, I chose the tale of The Three Bears. A well-known nursery tale that feature a family of bears and a young girl named Goldilocks, in reference to her curly blonde, locks of hair. I have created two very different designs. Both simple but one playing with the familial, animated roles of these animals while the other an exploration of positive and negative space. I wanted to give a stylistic approach to a rather plain story. I combined human and animal characteristics and also played with the representation of Goldilocks’ well-known hair. I even tried using her hair to tell the story but that concept became too busy on paper (refer to sketch 12) and didn’t even make it to rendition.
