Five Weeks in a Balloon: Storytelling Game

Five Weeks in a Balloon

"Five Weeks in a Balloon" is a project of the interactive mobile story-driven game based on Jules Verne "Five Weeks in a Balloon" novel, full of adventures and twists of plots.

In this game, we impersonate Dr Samuel Fergusson, explorer and scientist, who, together with his servant Joe and his friend Richard "Dick" Kennedy, sets out towards the unknown, through the mysterious African land, in a hydrogen-filled balloon.

The journey begins on the eastern shore of Zanzibar island and leads through the picturesque areas of Victoria Lake, Lake Chad, the city of Agadez, Timbuktu, the town of Djenné, to the city of Saint-Louis located at the western border of the continent. In this book, we discover the unknown face of African land, stories of its natives, as well as the moral dilemmas of the explorers.

Game mechanics and purpose

In its mechanics, the project employs a classic model of interactivity, offering the possibility of making choices by selecting dialogue lines. The decisions bring consequences, which has an impact on the complex game environment and the characters in relation to the main game heroes.

The game would be divided into one-day periods and our mission would be also to keep the crew alive by providing them with a sufficient amount of food and rest. The further journey will not be possible in the case when the health condition of the characters is below the given standard.
