Instructive Imagination

This project challenged me to create a booklet for ISTD that would be distributed as inserts in their journals. My booklet focussed on a section of Cal Swann’s Techniques of Typography, exploring the subject of 'copy fitting'
I looked at the impact of typewriters and typewritten manuscript as an essential component of the copy-fitting process, for this reason I chose to use the typefaces Eureka Sans and Eureka Mono. I felt it appropriate to centre the publication around the design and function of copy fitting tools, a celebration of type tools of the past.

Creating a refreshing, imaginative publication about something that is outdated and could be viewed as dull and uninteresting was part of the challenge of this brief. I printed onto semi-transparent pages to show and explain each element of the copy fitting tool. I picked up on the pastel orange colour from the original tool design and complimented this with a bright cyan blue.
