Design Poster and Web Banner for AIGA

Design Poster and Web Banner for 2017 AIGA “Reality Check”

The objective was to develop a synthesis between type and meaning. To convey meaning in a unique manner both in its ability to attract and communicate specific points. In this project, I addressed meaning and audience. I was drawing on prior exercises that blended conceptual metaphors with textual meaning. I started this process by pursuing the primary messages I needed to communicate, this call to action; research the subject of “student/professional portfolio review”; brainstorm ideas that relate to the message; develop forms of sketching that convey thoughts and process; build imagery/apply text and create a well-organized layout of the Poster and the Web Banner.

I started with brainstorming ideas and developing core messaging, began sketching to develop imagery and main text information. I identified audience and developed narrative behind the concept.

I created a Pinterest research document that includes information about "student/professional portfolio reviews". This visual document included images of who the audience is, what the audience is looking for, what objections must the audience meet, core messaging and information and "mood" images that help establish the visual directions.

My analog Concepts Sketches of each poster and web banner, including consideration of text (what and where it will be laid out) on the poster.
Computer Concepts of Poster and Web Banner:
2 computer concepts of poster and web banner that include all text and original images. These computer sketches are printed out 75% of the original 11” x 17” poster size and 1145 pixels wide x 420 pixels tall banner size.

I couldn’t decide between two ideas in terms of computer concepts (professional vs student, and student growing into professional).

Professional vs student was my final choice because it was talking more to the audience (students) and grasping the whole idea more, of a professional – student portfolio meeting - review.
