In creating a type specimen book for Adrian Frutiger's Avenir font family, I was inspired by 1980's BMWs. The font is extremely symmetrical just like old school BMWs. In turn the Type Specimen book was constructed as an owners manual for BMWs. The concept behind the other two pieces were forms of advertisement as well as a mailing box for the book. In theory design firms, or anyone for that matter would be able to buy the book and it would come in a mailing box, with a poster all using Avenir in different ways, and illustrate how the font could be used creatively as well as functionally. The colors used are the same in BMW's M series logo, which is their higher performance versions of their cars. In the 80's BMW M Series were at the forefront of motorsport racing and bringing performance cars to the general public, thus the name "The Future of Motorsport".
