Rotinese Ikat Woven Motion

Back in 2015 I was asked to make Island of Imagination's landing web page video for Frankfurt book fair 2015 along with a video with the same style for the event.

I'm not satisfied with the result.

In the following year I looked back and decided to redo some parts of the video with a different approach. I started to do some research for the best animation then design the workflow. Thus the Barong loop was created.

The Barong loop got better appreciation than the last one.

In the same year, a friend asked me to make a wedding invitation video with the same style as the Barong loop. And here's the making of Rotinese Bunga Perang.
The brief was to make the traditional Indonesian Rotinese ikat woven textile into Barong dotted/diamond style.

To make the motion like the Barong, each dot/diamond has to be converted into separate layers, therefore this file contains 8300 layers. Each dot/diamond represent one layer.

To make it easier to work with, this illustator file should be divided into several files which only contains about 100 layers.

Set scale up Expression and customize the After Effect color label. So when the layers stack up together, the project is less intimidating and looks more fun.

Creating Sequence Layers tools, to shorten the process.

Draft three type of motion design.

To make the after project lighter, Pre Render into alpha channel. And finally combine all the parts into one video.
