12 Zodiac Ladies
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of the horoscope.
Aries ♈️ - Ram // Fire // Mars • March 21 - April 19
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Aries.

• Character: She's Aries, a human-like woman with ram features (her horns, nose, mouth and tail), related to satyrs and fauns. She's a born leader, brave and full of initiative, always prone to the action. She's ruled by Mars and her element is Fire and while being strongly autonomous, she can be really impulsive and reckless. To the other signs she's frank, enthusiastic and fierce, a bit hotheaded and too loyal to their friends.

Background: I used Aries' colors, her ruler planet (Mars) and her element (Fire) to depict the background (reds and yellows), creating a Mars-like environment with lot of light and illumination effects (explosions and similar) to represent her impulsive traits.

Colors: red, scarlet and yellow.
Gemstones: diamonds, garnets and red stones.
Metals: iron and steel.
Trees: Trees and bushes with thorns.
Flowers: Daffodils, tulips and honeysuckle.
Taurus ♉️ - Bull // Earth // Venus • April 20 - May 20
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Taurus.

• Character: She's Taurus, a human-like woman with bull features (her horns, ears, nose, mouth and tail), related to Minotaurs. She has a strong-willed character, great perseverance and determination. She's ruled by Venus and her element is the Earth, making her a guardian of beauty, love and happiness, and keeper of the earth and nature. To the other signs she's reliable and materialistic, and really concerned of her belongings.

Background: I used Taurus' colors, her ruler planet (Venus) and her element (Earth) to depict the background (blues, greens and cream color), creating an Earth-like environment with a gas atmosphere in cream and pink colors (gases surrounding Venus and colors of a romantic view of the planet).

Colors: blue, cream and spring green.
Gemstones:  emeralds, coral and lapis lazuli.
Metals: copper.
Trees: ash, cypress and apple tree.
Flowers: roses, poppies and violets.

Gemini ♊️ - Twins (Foxes) // Air // Mercury • May 21 - June 20
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Gemini.

Why did a choose foxes to represent the twins? Foxes are some of the animals that represent Gemini. They're intelligent, fast and kind of difficult to define. Foxes represent the agility, intelligence, secrets and humor of Gemini.

• Character: They're Gemini, human-like twin sisters with fox features (their ears, nose, mouth and tail), related to the Teumessian Fox (also called the Cadmean Vixen, was a giant fox destined never to be caught). They have a volatile temperament, and their strength is their versatility, allowing them to learn a little about everything and develop skills in many areas. They're ruled by Mercury and their element is the Air, allowing them to hold artistic and creative abilities. To the other signs they're very intelligent and have a wide appreciation for the arts, philosophy, history and science, although they do not like boring people, routine procedures and usually struggle to deal with authoritative figures. They tend to be drastic and hasty but they're very responsible and disciplined. They have a dual personality and are sensitive as well but use their intelligence to counter anything that upsets them.

Background: I used Gemini's colors for the background, white is the color of Mercury (its planet) and since its element is the Air, I placed the twins over a sea of clouds. Since Mercury is the nearest planet to the Sun, they have a very bright background. Because of their duality, one of the twins is happy and the other one is sad, but both are engaged in a pensive mood.

Colors: white, black, yellow and saffron.
Gemstones: crystal, beryl and topaz.
Metals: mercury.
Trees: walnut and beech.
Flowers: lily of the valley, lavender and carnations.

Cancer ♋️ - Crab // Water // Moon • June 21 - July 22
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Cancer.

• Character: She's Cancer, a human-like woman with crab features (her two pairs of antennae on her head and her four crab-like legs which emerges from a partial exoskeleton on her back), related to Sea Nymphs.
She's tenacious, intuitive and empathic and is considered the most sensitive of all the 12 sisters of the zodiac. She's ruled by the Moon and her element is Water, this being the reason she's highly spiritual and tends to judge the world through intuition.
The other signs see her as the most enigmatic of the 12, bearing a lot of emotional tension and ambition.
Eloquent, refined and domestic, she owns her own Moon Orb, and while being destined to the night sky, she longs for the light, reason why she takes all opportunities she has to enjoy it.

Background: Because she's ruled by the Moon, and her element is Water, I placed Cancer on a beach shore at dawn (or maybe dusk). I wanted to illustrate her place between the night and day, because while the Moon is on the sky at night, we can often see it on the day sky too. Since the Moon is so important to the this sign, and to lot of aspects on Earth, I wanted to give this sign a magic complement, her Moon Orb, for her to carry the light everywhere she wants.

Colors: Silver, gray, blue and sea green.
Gemstones: Pearls and lunar rocks.
Metals: Silver.
Trees: Willows and pear trees.
Flowers: Daisies.
Leo ♌ - Lion // Fire // Sun • July 23 - August 22
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Leo.

Character: She's Leo, a human-like woman with lion features (her nose, lips and facial skin markings, her ears and her tail), related to the Nemean Lion, a lion with an impenetrable hide.
She's warm and prone to action, always driven by the desire to be loved and admired. She's ruled by the Sun and her element is Fire, this being the reason of her kind and optimistic nature and her loyalty to others and herself.
To the other signs she's sometimes possessive and arrogant, although they can always be sure she's quite frank about what she says to them.
Like her sister Cancer, she owns her own Sun Orb, to bring light and life to every corner of the Earth.

Background: I used Leo's color for the background, being her color pure gold. Since her ruler is the Sun and her element is Fire, I wanted to give her a bright background, and since her animal is a Lion, I decided to place her in an African Savanna-like landscape. As with Cancer, I wanted to illustrate her place between day and night, because the Sun is always illuminating the Earth. She also have a Sun Orb, for her to carry the light and warmth everywhere she goes.

Colors: Gold.
Gemstones: Ruby, diamonds and jacinth.
Metals: Gold.
Trees: Palm trees, citrus trees and rhododendrons.
Flowers: Sunflowers and potentilla.
Virgo ♍️ - Maiden (Bee) // Earth // Mercury • August 23 - September 22
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Virgo.

Why did a choose a bee to represent the maiden? Bees are one of the animals that represents Virgo. They are hardworking and practical, and like Virgo, they are governed by rules of communication, service and organised work. They work as a united community to achieve a common good, being very protective of their allies.

• Character: She's Virgo, a human-like woman with bee and fairy features (her pair of antennae on her head, her ears and her wings), related to Nymphs.
She's analytical, kind, hardworking and practical. She's ruled by Mercury and her element is Earth, known for her intellect and enjoyment of arts, literature, writing, mathematics and being skilled at completing detailed work.
She's the smaller in size of all 12 sisters, and to them she's modest, faithful and quiet, they think she tends to worry often and that she's very persuasive, hating being the centre of attention, thing that she usually achieve because of her small size.
With a good sense of reasoning and memory, she uses her magic to create magical orbs out of rain drops. Contrary to her sisters Cancer and Leo, she doesn't own a single orb, she can create them spreading the fairy dust from her wings over fresh rain drops, those that still hasn't touched the earth. Once they fall to the earth, the mirror like surface of those rain drops orbs, breaks, reflecting its surroundings in a million different ways, allowing her to see all the small details around her. Because of her own magic, she's the only one who doesn't reflect on those orbs, so when she has finished her work, she turns them again into water, being finally able to watch herself on the water they left behind.

• Background: Because she's ruled by Mercury and her element is Earth, I placed Virgo on a forest, over one of her Rain Drops Orbs, watching her surroundings on its surface. I wanted to show her smaller size, trying to paint the piece with the perspective of a macro photography. I used colors both from her planet and from her element, and gave her the power to create Rain Drops Orbs, bigger than herself, to show her dedicated and hardworking nature, and obsession for the details.

• Colors: pure white, light blue and pastel colors.
• Gemstones: pink jasper, jacinth and topaz.
• Metals: platinum.
• Trees: cherry trees, cotoneaster and birches.
• Flowers: alpine and rock plants.
Libra ♎️ - Scales // Air // Venus • September 23 - October 22
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Libra.

Why did a choose a deer to represent the scales? Deers are one of the animals that represent Libra. They symbolise friendship, beauty and agility. Are cautious by nature, having really acute senses giving them the ability to react quickly to whatever happens in their surroundings. They've been always linked to qualities such as speed, grace and prudence.

• Character: She's Libra, a human-like woman with deer features (her horns, nose, mouth, ears and tail), she's related to satyrs, and to the Ceryneian Hind. She's the personification of divine law and custom and the most balanced of all the 12 sisters. She's ruled by Venus and her element is Air and she's the one responsible of the balancing of seasons, matching correctly both the hours of the day and the hours of the night. To the other signs she's diplomatic and determined, and the voice of reason when is needed.

• Background: I tried to use pastel colors to paint the background, light blue and green are the colors of Libra and Venus (her ruler planet). Because her element is Air, and her traits are those of law and reason, I wanted to show a clear and peaceful sky. She's doing a ballerina pose, moving her arms in a way that resemblances the scales, which are the symbol of the zodiac sign, and the agility and delicacy, those being traits of deers.

• Colors: light blue (the color of Venus), pale greens and in general all pastel shades.
• Gemstones: diamond, carnelian and lapis lazuli
• Metals: copper and aluminium
• Trees: maple, plum and laburnum
• Flowers: cyclamen and clematis
Scorpio ♏️ - Scorpion // Water // Pluto • October 23 - November 21
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Scorpio.

• Character: She's Scorpio, a human-like woman with scorpion features (her secondary eyes on her forehead, her head claws and her tail and stinger), she's related to Water Nymphs and to Skorpios, who was sent by Gaia to slay the giant Orion. She's ruled by Pluto and her element is Water. She is always ruled by her desires, but her personal strength is resourcefulness, which allows her to control her desires unless she has a plan for them. To the other signs she's good at hiding her feelings, being a creative dreamer with a vivid imagination. But since she usually takes things personally, and posses a unique personality, she tends to fluctuate between an uncontrollable need to please others and the feeling of being excluded and misunderstood.

• Background: Because she's ruled by Pluto and her element is Water, I made her a Water Nymph, like Cancer and Pisces, but unlike her water sisters, she doesn't live near the sea, she resides near isolated deserts oasis, surrounded by springs and plants. I wanted to represent with her design, all the passions her zodiac sign is about: sex, birth and death. I also used her colors to complete the background.

• Colors: dark red, brown and black
• Gemstones: topaz, malachite and jasper
• Metals: sodium
• Trees: yew, cedar and acacia
• Flowers: azalea, gladioli and hellebore

Sagittarius ♐️ - Archer // Fire // Jupiter • November 22 - December 21
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Sagittarius.

• Character: She's Sagittarius, a female centaur, being half of her body that of a woman, and the other half that of a mare, having also elf ears and both her nose and mouth present special features. Related to the centaur Chiron, who mentored Achilles in archery, she's ruled by Jupiter and her element is Fire. Along with Aries and Leo she's part of the Fire Trigon. She's optimistic, enjoys travelling and knows very well what she wants, mastering both archery and philosophy.
To the other signs she's really active and wise, thanks to all the things she sees in her travels. As a centaur she has complementary and opposite features: being able to be extremely violent or wise, brave or mild.

• Background: Because she's ruled by Jupiter and her element is Fire, I wanted to represent Jupiter colors in the background, along with those of the Sun, representing the Fire. She's a traveller, so I made the background full of land from where she's stands to the horizon. Centaurs are really close with nature, forests, valleys and mountains, so I tried to add as much of that to the background too.

• Colors: dark and bright blue, warm brown and autumn tones
• Gemstones: ruby, hyacinth and topaz
• Metals: tin
• Trees: lima, mulberry trees and oaks
Flowers: carnations

Capricorn ♑️ - Sea Goat // Earth // Saturn • December 22 - January 19
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Capricorn.

• Character: She's Capricorn, a swamp mermaid, being half of her body that of fish, and the other half that of a female satyr, having goat like characteristics. She has colored skin on her face and iridescent hair, because of her mermaid nature, and both her nose and mouth present special features, along with her horns, because of being also a satyr.

Related to the Sumerian's primordial god of wisdom and waters, Enki, she's ruled by Saturn and her element is Earth.
Along with Aries, Cancer and Libra, they are the cardinal signs. And with Taurus and Virgo, she's part of the Earth Trigon.
She's known for her intelligence, ability of creation and performing magic, and travelling across all kinds of waters, although she prefers to live in swamps.

To the other signs she's tenacious and intelligent, but they see her as someone too prone to worry, and too concerned with her reputation.
Although she's in possession of an orb, this one is not permanent. She needs the help of Virgo to create an orb from the waters she's currently living in. Thanks to her magic, Virgo's orb won't shatter while she holds it.

Her orb allows her to see what may happen, all the possibilities that lies in the future, this is one of the reasons she worries that much.
When her orb is broken, her symbol will appear in the palm of her hand.

• Background: Because she's ruled by Saturn and her element is Earth, I wanted to represent Saturn colors in the background, along with those of the Earth. She's main characteristic is intelligence and being prone to worry, that's the reason I created those temporal orbs that allow her to see all the different futures. She's also part mermaid, part satyr/faun/goat, and since her element is Earth, I decided to make her a swamp mermaid, in close relationship with Virgo, another Earth zodiac symbol.

• Colors: dark green, brown and dark grey
• Gemstones: sapphire
• Metals: lead
• Trees: pines, elms and other common trees
• Flowers: pansy and ivy

Aquarius ♒️ - Water Bearer // Air // Uranus • January 20 - February 18
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Aquarius.

Why did a choose a hummingbird to represent the Water Bearer? Some of the animals that represents Aquarius are hummingbirds, eagles, herons and albatross. I decided to go with the hummingbirds because they represent the truth and the joy. They're considered the birds of the gods, that bring harmony and happiness to all who see them. And since the Greek myth behind this astrological sign is related to Zeus, who fell in love with Ganymede - the water carrier -  and took the form of a large bird, whisking Ganymede away to the heavens, choosing a hummingbird seemed a good choice.

• Character: She's Aquarius, a human-like woman with bird and nymph features (her wings, her ears, her forehead markings and iridescent hair.

Related to Ganymede, who was taken to the heavens by Zeus, when the god felt in love him, she's now the Water Bearer, bringing water to the Earth.

She's the biggest in size of all the 12 sisters, a giant woman with bird wings, who carries infinite water in her golden vase. When not carrying her vase, she can take a smaller size, though she's still way bigger than her sisters.

Being ruled by Uranus and having the Air as her element, she's idealistic and inventive, and the scientific one of all the zodiac sisters, who think of her as a gentle giant devoted to friendship and experimentation.

Along with Gemini and Libra, she's part of the Air Trigon.

• Background: Because she's ruled by Uranus and her element is Air, I wanted to represent the planet colors in the background, all bright and rainbow like, giving this way, importance to the sky. She's the water bearer, so even when being an Air sign, she's usually found creating lakes and other large bodies of water, using her wings to move from one place to the other.

Her golden vase can create all the water she wants, letting it fall in large waterfalls.

• Colors: All the bright colors of the rainbow because of her ruler planet: electric blue, shocking pink and fluorescent colors
• Gemstones: sapphire, opal
• Metals: uranium
• Trees: cornus and eucalyptus
• Flowers: orchids, geraniums and hibiscus

Pisces ♓️ - Fish // Water // Neptune • February 19 - March 20
Inspired by Western astrology I designed a humanized version of Pisces.

Why did a choose a mermaid to represent the Fish? Mermaids are mythological creatures, half human half fish. At first I was going to paint two mermaids, resembling the two fish that represent this zodiac sign, but the design of the drawing was too different with the one used for the rest of the signs, so I decided to use only one mermaid.

• Character: She's Pisces, a sea mermaid, being half of her body that of a fish, and the other half that of a female human. She has different colors all over her skin, making it iridescent in blue, purple and silver. She also have fin ears, webbed fingers (she has membranes between her fingers), and iridescent hair also because of her mermaid nature.

Related to Aphrodite and her son Eros (also considered Venus and Cupid - as a magic incarnation of both of their essences), who transformed into fish to escape Typhon, the "father of all monsters", when he was sent by Gaia to attack the gods.

She's the most mystical of the 12 sisters, known for her sensitive and adaptable nature, the other signs usually see her full of melancholia and sorrow.

Like her sister Capricorn she's a mermaid with magic abilities, although she only can live in salt water, so they only meet in the sea or the ocean. Pisces likes to spend time with her water sister Cancer, who also lives in the sea and like to spend time at shore.

Her magic abilities are related to karma, she uses metaphysical energy to arrange the actions involving the spiritual principle of cause and effect, where intent and actions of an individual influence the future of that individual.

Being ruled by Neptune and having Water as her element, she's the more adaptable sign of the zodiac, fully devoted to her element and to mystic energy.

Along with Cancer and Scorpio, she's part of the Water Trigon.

• Background: Because she's ruled by Neptune and her element is Water, I wanted to represent the planet and element colors in the background, being them violet, blue, white and grey. Since she's a mermaid, representation of the fish of her zodiac sign, she needed to be placed near water, a beach near the ocean.

She oozes magic from all her being, at plain sight her human skin, her mermaid tail and even her hair is iridescent emanate an endless mystical glow.

• Colors: Violet is Neptune color, other colors for the sign are blue, white and grey
• Gemstones: amethyst, chrysolite and topaz
• Metals: tin
• Trees: peach trees, apple trees
• Flowers: water lilies, doubtful knight's spur and dahlias
