A political statement and  a strong reminder of how designers need to bring back classic typographic design and grids back into the digital and multimedia space. This is a back lash against the flashy javascript and CSS animations, parallax and “rock out with your cock out” visual interactive gimmicks. This is a publication dedicated to the appreciation of font, to communicate the seriousness that is typography.

This drop in brief urged us to create a publication created around the importance of type primers. We had to develop a name and concept that would communicate the tone and feel of the concept that would carry the typography content.

It was necessary that the publication had two main fonts one being a serif and the other sans- serif. The publication would be compiled into ten chapters each relating to the given theme but containing content of the chosen fonts, whether it be the history, design, letter forms or styles of the respective. It was imperative that the entire publication was to be laid out on a minimum of three grid systems,   to convey the art direction of the publication.
Architecture was the chosen concept of the publication as it is also a traditional art form that is rapidly being digitized. Type and architecture have similar characteristics as they are both originally drafted and constructed on a grid.

The two fonts chosen for this publication were Baskerville being the serif and Futura being sans- serif. The fonts are complementary of each other so it seemed fitting that the colour palette would follow this trend. The yellow and blue colour palette is evident in every chapter creating cohesion between them through out the publication.
