Do it Yourself Not By Yourself Visual Collateral

The image I chose is a knot because if you are not a boy scout knots can be difficult, like trying to plan a wedding. We all want to learn how to tie knots but its really hard to try and tie knots if we don't have the right instructions. For most people that is how it feels trying to plan a wedding. We all want to do our own but its way stressful and from the look of it at the beginning it looks like a tangle of string. If we have the right instructions and the right help it makes it a lot more simple.
I picked the colors I did because purple is a color for royalty. Every girl wants to feel like a queen on their wedding day. It also stands out because a lot of wedding planning companies use reds and pinks and colors associated with love. The green for the text is to stimulate creativity. This is a company that is done by recreating things and being unique and individual. In my original plan the colors were brighter but in looking at it they needed to be a softer gentler color to stick with the theme of the company. I also added the dark green to emphasize the NOT because this helps people see that they will not be doing this alone. Its not going to be something you do alone and its not another DIY.
The text is done in a serif font called aubrey. Its simple but unique and it doesn't look like your typical font but it doesn't distract from the message its conveying. The font is very clear to read and very simple to use.

The business card was really fun to design. On the front I knew I wanted to have the name and the mark. I spent a lot of time playing around with the knot and where I could put it. Putting it under the words was too close to everything and it made it feel like there was a lot of weird tension because it didn't fit right there was too much empty space. I eventually settled on turning the knot on its side and putting the information on the front of the card. This let me have the knot on the front and it made it so you can see everything. The information was is done in a serif font and its done in the purple to create a contrast from the logo. When you look at the card the first thing you see is the name of the business because it is in the green and its the main thing. I made sure to keep the information on the front grouped together according to what was related to each other to make it user friendly.
The back of the Business card has part of the knot on the top and bottom. The string of the knot is what I chose to be my continuing theme for all the corporate identity. I liked the way it looked on the back of the card. It created a border and made it so you know whose it is if you are looking at it. To make the card more functional I added the lines so the clients can write down when they set their appointments for. Then they have a constant reminder of our business.

The envelope was the hardest for me to design I felt like there was a lot of space to use and I wasn't sure how to use it. I tried using the half string across the top to see if that worked. I tried using the whole knot it the name of the company, I tried doing it as a watermark. None of it worked. Across the top the proximity didn't work with the size of the image and the size of the envelope it looked like it was floating. Doing the whole knot by the name didn't work because it created too much tension with the writing. Doing it on the side keeps the continuing theme and it filled the space it needed to. Having the knot on that side of the envelope draws your eye to the knot and to the address and name of the business. It looks neat and professional yet very simple like the company itself. I also left the bottom right part of the envelope clear so that the post office can print their bar code on it.
I have two different versions of letterhead here. I uploaded the first one and started looking at it and really really hated it. So I fixed it. The alignment on the first one is terrible the logo and the information is not aligned at all and it looks like there is a lot of tension because they are not touching and they aren't aligned to each other. I went in and adjusted it so that the logo and the information are centered on the page and I liked the way that looked a lot better. It creates a better flow to the piece and it looks a lot more clean and simple. With it being center aligned it draws your eyes to the writing on the page and helps the letterhead move better. It also is a very usable piece. The watermark is light enough and far enough on the page it doesn't cause problems and the logo and information give enough room for the page to be used for what its supposed to be used for.
Facebook header
I wanted to use people in one of the headers because weddings are so fun and it's important for people to see that this is what this business is all about. We are about making weddings special and helping people do them right. I especially liked this picture because it is candid and I feel like you can see how much the two subjects care about each other. We want to convey the message that we make planning easy so you can focus on what's important. The company is based off the idea of making dreams come true and as you look at this picture that's what you want for them and it makes you think of all their dreams coming true and how that really can be a reality despite what the rest of the world says.
Twitter header
I chose this image because it shows an actual wedding party, Which is what we are mainly about we come and set up wedding parties and make them special. We are about making things nice and fun for the bride and groom. I feel like this image conveys that message to the people viewing it. They cannot mistake what we do when they look at this. It screams wedding party planning. Making dreams come true is our whole theme and that includes having beautiful decorations and really enjoying your special night. This image is really pretty and simple the colors are calm and clean they don't distract and it will help when people see the logo because of the contrast in colors. The very monotone colors of the header and the purple of the logo. It will help people see what we want them to see.

Twitter profile
For both social media profiles I took out the name from the logo because the name will show up on the actual page. The knot is simple enough by itself that you can tell what it is and what it represents without having words on it. The knot with the headers allows people to know what it represents. Tying the knot in marriage.
Facebook Profile.
I did the knot as the profile without the name because the name will be on the header next to it. Even though its a really small picture you can still tell its a knot. You can see the image on multiple interfaces. I am keeping it the same on all social media sites so that it is recognizable throughout.
