Screwdriver Project 2017

Before any designing, we were required to explore existing designs of screwdrivers. This helped to understand the semantics about screwdrivers and what parts are necessary for it to function properly. Not only did we explore the outer shape, but also what went on inside the screwdriver.
The next step was an ideation stage, where different forms of the screwdriver was explored. This helped to develop an idea of what your final idea would look like.
This is the final engineering sketch where I finalized my design and gave it dimensions. The different materials and parts that are used in screwdrivers were researched and added here.
After gaining clarity on the design, I took it to CAD and modeled all required parts to build the screwdriver. The bits were designed to fit into the back of the screwdriver, where each one has their own compartment. The bits stay in place by means of a magnet on each surface of the compartments, as well as in the shank.
Engineering sketches of the final CAD design. These include a: General Assembly, Exploded View, Detail drawing of the handle and a Detail drawing of the shank.
Final renders of the screwdriver done with CorelDraw. The render on the left shows how ergonomic the screwdriver is and how the design works. The render on the right shows product use and gives an idea of how big the product is.
