During a collaborative studio between Appalachian State University and the Eastman Chemical Company I developed and prototyped an outdoor chaise lounge. This chaise was designed and built over the course of the Spring 2012 semester and was displayed at High Point Furniture Market in High Point, NC, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City and the International Woodworking Fair's Design Emphasis student design competition in Atlanta, GA. I attended all three of these events to talk about my design and receive feedback from industry professionals.
Mid January, 2012, Juniors in Appalachian State University's Industrial Design program visited the Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN. Here we would be introduced a new material under development, Perennial Wood.
Over the course of several weeks we researched Perennial Wood to learn its characteristics. We split up in to groups to cover different areas of research. We documented our research through film and reported our findings each week to our fellow classmates as well as Eastman with short videos.
After several weeks of research we began concepting different designs that would show off Perennial Wood's characteristics of dimensional stability in outdoor conditions. The Patio Chaise was one of the first three concepts I presented to Eastman's panel of representatives. We presented our concepts throughout three phases of development to ensure things were moving along nicely.

I ended up collecting the most votes in the studio's design competition and was featured in an Eastman Innovation Lab Video talking about Perennial Wood and my design.
