Ben Kelly "Interior Design—Dead or Alive" Poster

Ben Kelly Symposium Poster
70×100cm 3-colour screen-printed poster
2015

Commissioned by
Ben Kelly to promote a one day symposium about interior design at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London on March 14, 2015.

Part of the promotion of the symposium was a series of posters created by various illustrators and graphic designers that were released consecutively on hoardings spread around UAL and ICA buildings in London and also posted via Twitter. As briefed, all the posters were based on the symposium's motto "Interior Design—Dead or Alive" and total artistic freedom was implied.

The poster was released in three phases/layers. Each layer's font was specifically chosen to intensify its concept.

The first, released early during the project, although resembles an information poster, actually bears no comprehensible information and aims to arouse curiosity. Font used is BPletterSquares by Backpacker.

The second firmly outlines the content and roughly hints a connection to Ben Kelly by using the symposium's motto. It was released mid-way through the project. Font used is Enemy by Shiva Nallaperumal.

Eventually the third phase/layer reveals all the information regarding the event, released just a day before the event. Font used is ZXX by Sang Mun.

As a natural consequence of posters being eventually left on walls and being vandalized/ripped/posted over etc. a fourth hand-written layer was designed to amplify the aforementioned poster's fate but also as a link to interior design. This layer was rejected and eventually not officially published.
