Typeface designers and typographers can use a whole range of cultural and historical references from paintings and architecture to burgers, as infuences and springboards for their ideas and designs. So how can a typographer begin to design a typeface using not only typographic references but also develop ideas from a broader cultural context?
I have been asked to design a unique and convincing piece of experimental typography in any media. My typography should evoke and express an aspect (or aspects) of the film director Sofia Coppola.
I was also asked to develop and present a typeface based on or developed / distilled from the experimental composition.
And lastly to design a poster and animation to promote my typeface.
During this process I have researched in-depth into my given director and derived the idea of an enigmatic typeface, from this came the name "She's all of those things".
