Chester Bennington Tribute - Illustration 2017

It's no secret to anyone that knows me that the passing of Chester Bennington hit me very hard. Linkin Park was the band that got me into rock music and music in general. I first picked up a guitar because I wanted to learn to play these songs that I have had on repeat for the majority of my life. The night I found out I didn't sleep at all...I just stayed up all night working on a drawing of him. I wanted to create something to honour him and the part he played in my life. Over the past few months I have done roughly 5 or 6 pieces of him but this is the first one I feel happy enough with to share with the world.

It started as a drawing I did on a cut piece of lining paper I stuck to my wall with a red pro marker, I just wanted to draw him and not be worried about ending up with a bad piece in my sketchbook. It ended up being one of my favourite drawings of Chester. I then put it in Photoshop and hand wrote the lyrics to 'Numb' for the background. That song is still very painful to listen to as it holds loads of personal memories with it so I wanted to add something as a personal connection for me. This is the first time I feel I have captured that aggressive raw power of his screams. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live 5 times the last being one of his last shows at the O2 Arena. That night was the greatest concerts of my life hands down and I will never forget it.

I hope you enjoy this piece and if you do please like and share it.

Rest In Peace Chester Bennington
