Daily UI Challenges

Daily UI #001 - Sign Up

Outside of blogs and news sites, WTA.org is a site I visit every week to find hikes to do around Washington state. Even though they just did a large redesign this year, I think the sign-up page is still bit messy. The form was full width (hard to read), asked for first/last (not used on the front-end), and asked users to sign up to 4 newsletters from the get-go. My suggestion is to have user opt-in to the main newsletter on this form and then follow up with users on the confirmation page to sign up to the other newsletter. Same for the first and last name.

I've also changed the heading to "Create an WTA.org Account" because there is another form that signs you up to WTA, but not the actual website (confusing!).
Daily UI #002 - Credit Card Checkout
Keeping the flow as least annoying as possible. Do people still look for the security icons? Realized I forgot to add that, but now I wonder if people even notice that anymore? I know it's best practice though, but I kind of like the clean look. Maybe the security icon will be a tooltip box??
Daily UI #003 - Landing Page

I've recently gotten intos hunting and I've been digesting all of the Meateater podcast and tv show episodes. This LP is for Steve's (host) big game hunting book. I included pieces of the Meateater brand into this challenge.
Daily UI #004 - Calculator

I wanted to do something different than the traditional desktop app or mobile app.

I've seen a couple calculators for wearables that has advanced calculations, but I *don't* believe users are going to be doing advanced calculations on a tiny screen. So I kept it to simple arithmetic. Users have the option to enter by voice instead of taps too.

If the Android Wear device supports Google Assistant, then this app would be less useful.
Daily UI #005 - App Icon

App icon for my Freedom Camps mobile app
Daily UI #006 - Profile Screen

I haven't designed the profile screen yet for my Freedom Camps app. Might as well do it for the challenge.
Daily UI #007 - Settings Screen

A couple friends and I have started playing Shadowrun (Pen and Paper game) and there's an Android app that was built to track your Cyberdeck. The app is currently using the basic Android dark UI, so I figured I give it a facelift.
Daily UI #008 - 404 page

I haven't beat Firewatch yet, but I can't help to admire the visual style used in the game and on the website. Luckily they don't have a 404 page, so I decided to make one for them.

I used the same type and button style. The background is from the studio. The radio was made by Noah Jacobus on Dribbble. I tried making the radio myself, but I'm long ways from being able to do that in Illustrator.

Someday though. Someday.
Daily UI #009 - Music Player

I spend more time listening to Podcast than music and I've lately been contemplating in ditching the smartphone for a LTE watch like the LG Urbane 2.

This challenge is based off of my favorite Android podcast app (Pocketcast). I tried to follow Material patterns and recommendations for this one.
Daily UI #010 - Social Share Button

Trying to do something different, so I made AR Twitter share buttons. Typically, to activate a button in AR or VR, you have to hold your cursor on the item for a few seconds before it activates. This is to prevent accidental activations.

If there was motion, the "Press with timer" state would slowly fill till it's pressed.
Daily UI #011 - Flash Message

I just saw Blade Runner 2049 and also the old Blade Runner (again). Totally in love with the style so I had to do something based on that.

There was a scene where Wallace's assistant was trying to locate K when he went off the grid. This is the concept alert screens that would pop up if the system located K.
Daily UI #012 - E-Commerce Shop (Single Item)
I haven't played World of Warcraft for more than 10 years, but I felt like checking it out again recently. Here's a pet you can buy in-game.

Pretty simple design, most in-game stores don't give items a full screen. There's usually no cart or quantities unless you're buying something like potions.
Daily UI #013 - Messaging App
I haven't specifically designed anything for iOS yet, so I skimmed through the Apple's Human Interface Guidelines. I also used iPhone X's template.

I read that the latest iOS's note app is using a FAB, but I haven't seen anything in the guidelines yet, so I left the primary action button at the top right.
Daily UI #014 - Countdown

Stranger Things 2 is finally coming! I was playing around with either the red digital clock or flip clock for the countdown text. I chose the analog flip clock.
Daily UI #015 - On/Off Switch
I don't think I'll ever get smart lights, but if I did...

To change the kelvins for the light, just hold it for 2 seconds to bring up the settings screen.
Daily UI #016 - Modal
Backcountry Hunters and Anglers is a national conservation group in the US that I recently discovered on Steve's podcast.
Daily UI #017 - Email Receipt
Developing email clients that work on all devices is a pain in the ass because every client is different, so I kept this template simple by sticking to 1 column and using a base font (Verdana).
Daily UI #018 - Analytics

I've been roasting coffee since the summer and I've recently upgraded from roasting on a cast iron to a FreshRoast roaster and I've started to record how I roast my coffee. I'd like to eventually start building a roast profile for my favorite beans. This is the sort of screen I'd like to see in a roasting app.
Daily UI #019 - Scoreboard

I've been watching the crypto market the last year. Wish I invested in it 5 years ago when my friend first told me to. I got a little lazy with getting correct data in there because I don't want to copy paste everything one by one. I got some of the data using Invision's import JSON feature, but it's still not perfect.
