Driven by the need of spreading information, Wearepicta.com took a risky step in a country where freedom of speech is limited: inform the masses about the protests and violent repression from Maduro’s regime occurred between April to July 2017 using @wearepicta Instagram Stories.
Venezuela’s Repressive government controls the nation through hunger & fear, prosecuting and imprisoning journalists and citizens that inform about repression, corruption and violation of essentials human rights. As a cultural youth oriented news site, our team decided to jump into the news stream and keep our audience informed using our bests tools: content creation & design.

Speed, veracity & good design was the key to get the job done. A team of journalists, designers and researchers went through everyday news searching for the most important content for our audience. Only compared to a war situation, each day of “resistance” brought violent clashes between civilians protesters and government’s armed forces, resulting in cold blooded murders and human rights violations that the mainstream media isn’t allowed to broadcast.
Our job: deliver the news to our audience in real time using Instagram Stories as our medium. A fast, trustworthy tool capable of keeping pace with the frenzy activity of the streets. Delivering 15 to 20 stories per day, Wearepicta was capable of breaking the censorship barriers inviting its audience to screenshoot & share the content.
