Sufers: Wood and Raku firing

Sufers: Wood and Raku firing
A ten day ceramic and metal casting workshop in Sufers, Graubünden a municipality in Switzerland. A team of 20 comprising of students, technicians and professor of the Hochschule Pforzheim, worked together day and night and made this a great success!
Wood firing
Glazing of the bisque fired pieces was done on day one. Later on a mix of feldspar, sand and cow dung are stuck to the bottom of the glazed pieces so that they don't stick to the kiln shelf.
Day two; all the pieces were loaded and it was fired up to cone 10. We took turns in loading the kiln and also in the firing process.
Day three; After hours of firing and cooling down, the kiln was unloaded.
Raku Firing
Bisque fired pieces were glazed and the firing was done in kilns(metal trash cans with ceramic fiber lining). The pieces were removed from the kilns while they were burning red and was subjected to post firing reduction- being placed in a container with combustibles like sawdust, leaves, etc.
The final day; Exhibition. It was great to see ten days of hard work displayed at the town hall which has a splendid view of the Alps and the lake Sufnersee.
All the pieces were also displayed at the Design week held at the Hochschule Pforzheim, design faculty.
