Pavement is concept gallery that has been created for a year three university brief. A fictional company, location and names. All the work that follows is a result of my own personal interest in photography and the film medium within it.

Concept behind the brand:

PAVEMENT is a new up and coming photographic gallery in the heart of London, specializing in two key elements within the photographic industry, these are:

    1. To bring the film medium back to the 21st century by only exhibiting film prints & running frequent workshops to enlighten people.

    2. The celebrate the urban landscape that is ever changing and growing around us.

Pavement Manifesto.

"Why has everything become digital? What is wrong with the old, somewhat lost techniques within photography? Well, we haven’t forgotten, we still recognise the unquestionable quality of film and the process that follows. We believe film should be just as much a part of photographic practice as digital has now become, and we intend to shout about this.

The age of digital supremacy is over, we must remember film for what it once was and bring this love back to the 21st century.

Based in London we have a vast, multicultural urban landscape which many might take for granted. We live in one of the greatest cities in the world, this is something to be proud of, and celebrate. The urban print room will gather and exhibit the best urban related imagery from all over the globe. This could mean an entire focus on London its self or to explore an entirely different city on another continent. If its urban it’s ours. Of course this will be paired with our other key element at the urban print room, film.

For reasons not known to us, film has been on a general decline since digital photography first came around. You could say this is understandable if your love for photography has diminished. Whereas many of the photographic community that remember print will have fond memories of spending hours printing their own photographs in a red lit room, waiting for that finely constructed image to arise from the page. There is something so much more personal about being able to work from that iconic shutter noise to the final fix on your own image; the process becomes much more apart of you then this new point and shoot generation seem to realise.

We intend to rebuild film’s reputation with the opening of this celebratory gallery, showing everything the medium has to offer, from holding ‘print dealing nights’ to full artist exhibitions. For the creatives among us and equally the contemporary photographers still using film, this gallery will become a hub for all.
