CONTRAST, COLOR AND COMPOSITION
Reflection

We had a project to do which focused on color, contrast and composition. We had to use three numbers or area codes to create designs with typographic contrast. We had to choose from the limited fonts that we were given. We could either use one font or mix the fonts in our work. At the end of the project we had to have six designs but had in one matted design.

At first I was very clueless on what I had to do or where should I even begin but eventually I did something to help and motivate me. I first looked at all the fonts that were given to us and I tried to see how each was designed. My initial idea after that was to have everything really abstract and colourful like a mosaic. But as I developed my work everything changed to a more simple and legible design because the work was too illegible. I still kept the prominent colors in my first design and the design its self but I just changed the width or size of the numbers. For instance with 240 I had the numbers broken up with more than five different colors but I ended up with solid shapes and three colors. With 862 I initially thought I could use a 1 instead of 8 but I ended up using the 8 instead and it was first black and white but I changed it to a pastel lavender, pink and off white. With 057 everything was also broken off and the same size but I changed and made solid shapes and made the 7 more of a stroke. The rest of the designs stayed the same expect for the colors.

My process was as follows. I first looked up the designs of the typefaces to see how each looks like and how I can work with it. From there I made some sketches on how I wanted the designs to look. I then took my work to Adobe Illustrator and began to create my designs. I created each design and from there I viewed my WIP and I also decided to critique myself and evaluate my work with a different eye. I first printed the original work and circled around things and wrote things that I like and that of which I do not like. I went back on Illustrator and I made changes to my work. I then printed again for the second time to see how where the changes and where should I change again. I went back to Illustrator and finalised everything and did a test print on everything. I went to Office Max to print my work and came back to school to mat my work.

This project was the most mentally challenging because you had to be super creative, you had to take simple things like numbers and turn them into an art. It really taught me to think way out side of the box. It also helped me to improve my illustration skills. Most importantly it really taught me to critique myself reasonable and harshly so that I can see the unnecessary mistakes and where I should improve as in individual.
