Installation - String Theory: World Map Game

Installation - String Theory: World Map Game
Problem
During the design week at Otis College of Art and Design in summer 2017, we were required to make a installation to express our ideas and concerns of this world as designers. It should involve the audiences from out of the campus and speak to them effectively.
Insight
In our 5-people group, none of us was born in the USA. It caused our attention that how people traveling around the world, but at the same time there are so many countries not explored as much as others. We decided to make a installation which could touch upon people's travel itinerary as well as attract their attention to some less explored countries.
Solution
We hand-drawn two large-scale world maps and set them up on two facing walls. Participants were invited by a 'passport' which has the information on one of the 25 least visited countries. With the instruction on the 'passport,' they could find the flag of that country hanging besides the map, and pinned it on the right location on the map. At the same time they pinned their home countries and connected these two countries with a colored string. Each color represented a continent. The next step was to pin the last county they visited and connected to their home countries as well.
Preparation
On sight - More than 40 participants were involved and we got nice feedback. We were glad to talk to people about their travel experience and introduce them to exciting but undiscovered areas.
And we used a 35mm film camera documenting the whole process.
