Malkia ya Jangwa Joes Blackbook #JBB2017

This collection is titled Malkia za Jangwa, Queen of the Desert. Malkia za Jangwa explores the textures and elements of the continent Africa. From the architecture of the Stone Town in Zanzibar to the salt flats of the Makgadakigadi Basin in northeastern Botswana, this concept has been inspired by every crevice of the continent. The collection largely focuses on the natural elements; landscape, animals, plants, and rock. The title is Swahili, and pertains to the customer of being a queen in her own right and as powerful as a desert storm. Malkia za Jangwa is a fall/ winter 2018 ready to wear, marketing young designer and street style.
This collection is street style yet is inspired by couture. Based off all of the natural elements of Africa such as sand, plants and salt flats formation, this collection has very intense print. The continent of Africa has very different climates such as the cold town of Ifran, Morocco to the driest country of Namibia, so the fabrics are a mixture of both warm and cool fabrics. Fabrics include wool, cotton, silk, chiffon, and polyester. Like the fabric, the color palette is a wide range of colors including rust, olive, salmon, sienna, dust, and ivory, seashell, ochre. The silhouettes of the collection are tunic, high waist, sheath dress, shift dress, palazzo pants, bell-bottoms, trousers, and shorts. As well as off the shoulder, strapless, turtle neck, V-neck necklines. Africa is full of different types of texture so this collection will incorporate texture as well. Embroidery and original prints will be heavy used throughout the collection. Original prints will be inspired by the color and structure of salt flats and architecture. Beading will also be incorporated as another surface detail.
The customer for this collection is a proud independent woman. She is strong and confident and incorporates that in her style. She is a lover of all things and print and color and takes a risk with her wardrobe. She is between the ages of twenty- four to mid- thirties. She is a city girl but can find herself retreating to the open air of the countryside. She is a lifestyle blogger and has her own jewelry business, bringing out her creative side. She is a compassionate and respectable woman who also loves to give back and volunteer as much as she can. She resides in New York City but can also be found in Calabasas. She is active in exercise and yoga, making sure her mind and body stay at a healthy balance. When she is not in her studio apartment she can be found all over the world, always traveling to a different country when time allows it. She is inspired by different cultures and cannot get enough of trying different types of cuisine. She loves to shop at Zara for everyday wear but indulges in new items from Moshino, Dolce and Gabbana and many more. She admires quality fabric and wise about where she shops and spends her money. This brand can be compared to a mix Dolce and Gabbana and Zara. The price point is range between two hundred and higher depending on the garment. The brand can be sold online, in its own store and in other stores such as Bloomingdales and Zara.
