2014 Helsinki Guggenheim Museum Competition

Delisabatini Architects Studio
Competition: New Guggenheim Museum
Helsinki - Finland
2014
During my studies i have been also a collaborator for Delisabatini Architects Associated Studio in occasion of this international competition.
I worked on the 3d model, visualization and creation of functional and technical schemes.

The project designed by Delisabatini Studio is really respectful of the context. Due to this fact, the design reports the characteristic geometry of the surrounding urban block. The museum is designed as a solid rock that can be visible from long distance becoming a new landmark for the city. This massive volume is excavated along selected visual axes that will be the key of the physical and visual permeability. One of the most important element is the public external area that is formed by a wide staircase with exhibition area for big sculptures that become a public square for Helsinki. The public area has services as bars and bookshops that can be accessible both from the inside and outside and it is placed in continuity with the pedestrain city routes. The square can be used also as a open theatre and area for big cultural events. The clear building aspect of the exterior turns into an interior complex space. The main hall, characterized by wide wooden floor and walls, is an empty volume that wraps the exhibitions areas and arrives to the roof where the natural light falls from big openings. Within this void volume the big staircases take to the upper levels with surprising perspectives of the interior space.
