GELLERUP MUSEUM
Visual identity, type design and communication strategy proposal for the Gellerup Museum. Gellerup is a popular suburb of the city of Aarhus (Denmark) labelled as a ghetto area and whose population is essentially composed of people with refugee and immigrant background. In a will to have an expression space, the locals created the Gellerup Museum, an informal cultural institution aiming to support local cultural activities while presenting the history of the suburb. For a few years now, the museum faces difficulties in reinventing itself and attracting new visitors slowly leading to its unexploitation. In view of this problematic, this project aimed to design a brand new visual identity for the museum including a specific custom typeface, a modular graphic system principle as well as accessible communication objects so that the institution can sustain. This identity is also based on the participatory design approach, which allows residents to make their voices heard in a transparent manner and to reappropriate communication tools by integrating them into the creative process. Project realized in collaboration with Urgent Agency, Instant City and the Aarhus Architecture Festival.
