My project was to make a table inspired by the watchesmelting in The Persistence of Memoryby Salvador Dali. I used basswood on top because it’s soft and maple wood forthe base because it is very strong and sturdy. This relationship between softand strong is reflected in the design of the table, as I created the top togive the illusion of melting, while the base is the strength holding up theentire object. I painted it all with acrylic gold paint in order to connectboth the top and the base, as well as link elements of the painting with thisobject. Furthermore, the glass surface can act as a picture frame, whichenhances the overall theme of painting and sculpture, yet the object retainsits functionality.
