The Ghost Festival, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, Zhongyuan Festival or Yulan Festival (traditional Chinese: 盂蘭節) is a traditional Buddhist and Taoist festival held in Asian countries on the 15th night of the seventh month (14th in southern China). Mandarin Music Concert-like performances that is performed by groups of singers, dancers and entertainers on a temporary stage are a prominent feature of the Ghost Festival in Singapore and Malaysia. The festival is funded by the residents of each individual district as an act to comfort the lost ghosts and spirits of the ancestors and other deities.

'Mandarin Pop Culture Currency' is a single page magazine take inspiration from one of the most important element during the festival, the money for the dead (traditional Chinese: 陰司紙), in order to protest for the freedom of Mandarin Pop Music Culture in Malaysia which is under government control. The campaign is produced by a Malaysian Radio Station FM 98.8, the second largest radio station in Malaysia with the support of severals celebrities in the pop music culture scene. It is distributed throughout several cities in SEA monthly at every Chatime branch
