This is a book jacket that I created for a middle-grade novel "Things That Suprise You", written by Jennifer Maschari and published by HarperCollins. This book is about a girl called Emily Murphy who is about to enter middle school. She's sort of excited…though not nearly as much as her best friend Hazel, who is ready for everything to be new. Emily wishes she and Hazel could just continue on as they always have, being the biggest fans ever of the Unicorn Chronicles, making up dance moves, and getting their regular order at The Slice.

I really enjoyed working on this project, because the friendships of the main characters is just so relatable and the story feels so nostalgic at the same time. With the world in the story that is so real, I had fun coming out with different versions of the world at the first stage before we finally settled with the final one. Below are the other sketches that are not chosen and I might say that I really like each design just as much as the chosen one!
