KISEKAE

Born in Tokyo, matured in NYC, implemented back home, the kisekae concept is the result of 20 years of relationship and work experiences of 2 good friends.

Tomoko has dedicated her life to the study, the sourcing and design of precious stones. She graduated from the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, California, the most prestigious credential in the industry. Subsequently, upon returning to Japan she has worked for Mikimoto, the renowned Japanese jewellery company. Miyou graduated Art University and has worked in the fashion industry as a designer ever since. She is the creative mind, and has the ability to come up with out of the box designs.
These 2 different backgrounds turned out to be very complementary. Adding Tomoko’s technical expert skills to Miyou’s unique ideas is what makes kisekae so very unique. Conception ideas are drawn in the founders’ personal interests as they go through life. There is no wish for repeated seasonal collections nor will there be any iconic products following one particular style. "KISEKAE" stands for paper doll in Japanese and implies regular change in style. « The direction is no direction ». The only thing that really matters to them is the use of good quality materials, specifically for the parts directly in touch with the skin to optimize the comfort of users. As price also matters they make sure to combine different materials in one piece of clothes and jewellery on a case by case basis. Finally as they wish to be as close as possible to the users they accept custom orders. Their fine clothes and jewellery are carefully made in Tokyo.
