Marvel's Agent Carter: The Movie

AGENT CARTER: THE MOVIE

The Brief:
Create a movie poster for the next installment in the
Marvel Cinematic Universe
THE FINAL IMAGE
The Project
As a life-long Marvel fan my mind is often left spinning after each new movie release with all the potential spin-offs that could be made from the wealth of newly-introduced characters.

With 'Captain America' in 2011, I recognised The Howling Commandos and Peggy Carter from the Sgt. Fury and/or Captain America comics, respectively.
Once I saw the film, I immediately drew the poster of the Marvel movie I wanted to see next: "Agent Carter and her Howling Commandos"

Further film & TV installments have cemented Agent Carter (portrayed by Hayley Atwell) as leading the Howlers and becoming the founder of SHIELD and very much taking over the role of the old, pre-Samuel L Jackson, Nick Fury within this Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With this in mind I began mapping out her career to come. We know that SHIELD still hadn't been founded by 1954 and we know that she got married to someone unrevealed to us. (source: Ant-Man DVD special features; interview with Peggy.)

I looked for a conflict in the early 50s that Peggy and the SSR could be involved in and came across the First IndoChina War that ran from 1945-1954.

Britain and the USA were supporters of France during this war, but not directly involved. We know that comic-book Nick Fury was sent over as a CIA agent to see the lay of the land and to advise future involvement, if any. Agent Carter can fill Fury's role as she is being set-up to do in the MCU.

The Premise:
The presence of an unknown figure draped in the Union Flag was threatening to escalate the conflict in IndoChina into World War Three, so the US Government assigned the SSR to investigate and neautralise the threat if necessary.

One of the soldiers assigned with Agent Carter would be fellow Howler, Gabe Jones (portrayed in 'Captain America' by Derek Luke).
The fictional biography of Gabe Jones places him with the famous Buffalo Soldiers of the 92nd Infantry before joining the Howling Commando in the 107th. He has a tattoo commemorating this unit on his shoulder, which had to be added to his now-bare arm.
The costume worn in 'Captain America: The First Avenger' was designed for the Austrian climate, and the actor could never wear this in the tropical air of IndoChina. The body armour was kept and changed to a 'jungle green' from its original 'woodland green'. Gabe's scarf and shirtsleeves were removed and his metal helmet was replaced with a cloth cap more similar to the one the character wore in issues of 'Sgt Fury and the Howling Commandos'.
The secretive figure that initiated the SSR's response would be a WW1 and WW2 British Super-Spy by the name of Union Jack.

Union Jack's real name was J Montgomery Falsworth and he appeared in the 'Captain America' movie, portrayed by British-American actor J J Feild.

J Montgomery Falsworth as portrayed by J J Feild in 'Captain America' opposite his comic book counterpart's alter ego.
This actor had yet to appear as 'Union Jack' himself, but was aware of his character's potential evolution.

The costume I designed was based upon the illustrations found in the comics (the above drawing by John Cassaday) and in line with the real-world adjustments made for Captain America's own movie costume.
Step-by-step build up of the figure
From comic history we know that Peggy and Gabe get married in 1976, after both have been divorced from their current partners. This movie would be a chance to show and grow their shared chemistry, although neither would betray their current spouse at this time. Peggy's marriage is already under strain due to her heavy stressload leading the SSR, so it's only a matter of time...
