SUWANNEE HULAWEEN

The Suwannee Hulaween Music Festival takes place in the midst of 800 acres of Spanish moss-draped oak and cypress trees along the Suwannee River, and is one of the most beautiful live music experiences in the country. Every year the Florida wilderness is transformed into a visual arts extravaganza, by some of the most talented sculptors, painters, light designers and performers in the Southeast.
We were excited to get a call from Florida, and even more excited when it was the folks at Suwannee. They hit us up to design everything for their 2017 festival, including the overarching identity, logo, posters, animations and apparel.
To begin with, we established what made Suwannee so rad; the experience of slipping into the woods and getting lost. The oak trees and Spanish moss mask off the outside world, and act as a portal to the music, art and adventure of the festival. The natural environment becomes the canvas; with performances, installations and light projections celebrating the wilderness.
For the identity system, we embraced the pagan spirits and uncovered the mystical creatures that inhabit the festival grounds. Bright colors pierce through the deep base palette, and layers of foliage play a prominent role in the design system. Matching the spirit of the festival, the design is an invitation to look at your surroundings and discover what hides in nature.
All these elements converge as the colors, creatures and natural canvas weave together to build an alluring identity system that compliments the vibe of the festival. It’s art. It’s nature. It’s so Florida.
