Περίπτερο – Learning from Athens

This book depicts the study of a kiosk-installation called: Kiosk, Learning from Athens, written by George Tsavalos. It is part of an academic study that began in 2016 and was fulfilled in June, 2017. The title, Learning from Athens, was brought about from Documenta 14 in 2017, which took place in both cities Athens and Kassel.

The book includes a historic retrospect of the Greek Kiosk, the existing legislation regarding the function of kiosks, the way one may move inside and within the kiosk’s surrounding area; furthermore, it includes a study of the evolution of the Athenian blocks of flats since 1900s, the kiosk as the symbol of the society in which it is intergraded as well as it discusses the elements regarding the very philosophy of architecture.

The present research elaborates the installation of a new type of kiosk which aims at connecting and interrelating policy as such with public space through its own structure and deconstruction; meaning, the creation of an architectural structure that may constitute a spatial point where people may express their own perspectives regarding society, culture and policy making while interacting with the modulor structure itself.
