Gloucester Mediatheque

A university project of a contemporary library in Gloucester. Site close to the Greyfriars gave the opportunity to work with the ruins of medieval church. Remained arches of the medieval structure have been used as a frame to the building. At the same time central row of the arches became an obstacle for the structure.
The proposal focuses on reviving the area of Greyfriars - it is the only Grade I listed building in Gloucester that clearly lacks enough attention. New library would allow the area to get more life and along with current development of Greyfriars Housing would make the area an important part of the town.
Apart from the aim of providing good quality library space, the scheme tries to work with the ruins in a way that it would be possible to demolish the library without any harm to the medieval arches.
