ELIXR COFFEE

Interior Design
Elixr Coffee shop has moved half a block (1512 Sydenham.St ) built primarely with Architectural salvage
The reclaimed wood alone saved 13* mature trees from having to be cut down.
*14" diameter and 60' in height.
This fire door was purchased from PS Co. salvaged from Budd Co., cleaned and modified it now serves as a slidding bathroom door.
After 30 years redwood water towers have to be replaced. In that time frame the towers are darkened by the carbon from New York City pollution while the inside is made lighter by the chlorine in the water. (bathroom walls)
We used over 12 different wood species, all reclaimed from local sources
Custom design & build redwood flip top benches with numerous plug-ins to enjoy the coffee and relax. Exterior windows salvaged from University of Pennsylvania, now enclose some of the original plaster and electrical lines.
Reclaimed pipe organ from a local church repurposed as a shelf to hold salvaged mirrors.
Custom built black walnut floating shelves. (Above) Reclaimed slate roofing shingles used as backsplash and surface to use as a menu board.
Reclaimed industrial beams remilled & installed as endgrain flooring by the gentelmen of Ethically Built
We preserved some of the original character of the building on this brick and plaster wall. Tables and benches were reused from the old location.
The end grain window is created with thin slices of reclaimed southern yellow pine incased in tempered glass. Only a select number of slices had this much sap sealed within them which illuminates when lit from the back.
The two bar tops were reclaimed lanes from a bowling alley in Flatbush Ave NYC. Each piece was dismanteled and reglued to make a 14 ft run.
The bar top was complimented with a ornate bracket gifted to the project by Matt Bruno.
Street name mushroom board usally consists of hemlock or cypress. The texture on these boards comes from mushrooms secreting enzymes dygesting the soft rings in wood found in farms in PA.
40% recycled tiles used in the bathroom and service area.
Custom built redwood door wth salvage hardware. The black streaks in redwood comes from the water bleeding into the wood while in water tower form. Remilled, the wood has many uses and new character.
Upper level flooring is from mixed hardwoods from storm damage trees supplied by Provenance Architecturals LLC. Metal railings hand crafted by Glueline Inc.
Redwood cladding used again on the service station to tie together the two levels. With a custom display shelf.
The marble was salvaged by Greensaw LLC from one of UPENN facilities, repurposed as the service station countertop.
The kitchen cabinet doors were built entirelly with a dismanteled barn door. Some of the hardware marks are evident, with character nail holes.
Stainless steel counters were produced in Philadelphia.
