Project Description

OPO'Lab is a multidisciplinary center and the first FabLab in Portugal dedicated to think and explore the creative use of new technologies in architecture, engineering, design and other artistic fields, by promoting research, education and cultural activities. Since its founding year, 2010, the OPO-LAB has contributed to the development and realization of projects proposed by countless creative minds that challenge the limits.

"Print With Us" is one of the FabLab most recent initiatives - a series of 3D printing workshops. The following designs are part of a campaign including both print and digital communication.

2. Concept

Aiming to develop a clear simple yet appealing aesthetic for this campaign I pulled out four of the main elements of 3D printing and I turn them into basic shapes I could easily repeat and apply.

2. Color & Typography

The color palette is composed by the three main colors below plus the white color to unify them. The workshops have three difficulty levels, each color corresponding to one of them. The colors are meant to be solid, fun and filled with personality. The typography is the one and only PT Sans (used always in Bold Weight) to keep a strong but elegant style.

3. Look And Feel

Communication Strategy

In order to proceed with our communication strategy a couple of posters and flyers without any text information were designed to be printed and distributed all over the city. The main goal was to start having people's attention and curiosity about it, providing them all the needed information after a short term period of time.

4. Icons

A set of icons was designed to counterbalance the geometry of shapes and the firmness of the colors. At the same time these icons have usefulness. Some of them because they illustrate processes, others as symbols of identification.

5. Web Elements / Illustrations

A couple of illustrations was released before announcing the exact dates, still as a part of our communication strategy. The illustrations were designed to be displayed across OPO-LAB's social media channels. The icons can be applied in different ways - in some cases even deconstructed and combined with other illustrations elements. For our digital campaign one of the icon sets was used to be part of a couple of illustrations explaining briefly and step by step the 3D printing process.
