STRANGERS in PARADISE - Baltimore - volume VI

He is a pirate, a captain of an expedition, an architect of many churches, a pastor or just a Spaniard who boasts with his swords, and adventure-filled stories of life and fatherhood.

And she is royalty and his rock, a pillar of strength and wisdom beautifully balanced with an angelic sensitivity and kindness. Together they are Ed and Kaiya, the intriguing Caninos, a duo with overflowing creativity and faith.

We meet on a warm fall afternoon in their studio apartment in Baltimore. He goes to the window and says, “here is the little machine I use that makes the sound of waves; it helps to overcome the noise of the busy street outside.”

Ed shows us his study table full of old photographs from his time when he was heading a Christian mission to Latin America on a boat called La Gracia. "I design churches, that's what I'm famous for," says Ed as he shows me an album full of photos from the quite impressive churches he has designed and planned.

Proudly he shows me the picture of his children with him leaning on the pier with lots of sail boats in the background.  Hand written on the side of one of the pictures is what Ed’s children (now adults) learned from him. One of the sentences reads: " learned from my dad to always leave a place better than when you found it. Tears don't serve! A love for putting things together"...
